How much life insurance do you need?

A tool and the logic it uses: income years, outstanding obligations, education funding, and current assets.

The typical approach: total what your earnings would have supported, then deduct existing resources. Precision isn't required—policies sell in round figures anyway. The aim is a number that keeps your family stable through the critical years.

Coverage estimate

$1,765,000

Estimate = income × years + debts + schooling − existing savings, rounded to $5K increments. This is a rough guide, not professional guidance.

Why those inputs

Income years. Ten to twenty years is the typical range; your right answer hinges on how long dependents require income. Families in Riverbank with young kids frequently pick twenty or more because school and housing costs converge.

Debts. For most households, a home loan is the biggest obligation. Enough coverage to pay it off gives your family choices rather than forcing a sale.

Education. Budgeting per child in current dollars makes sense. It's simpler to include now than to layer in another policy later.

What you have. Bank balance and employer-provided coverage. Group plans terminate with employment, so counting only a fraction is prudent.

Once you know your target amount, the quote tool displays prices from each insurer for 10- through 30-year terms. Many opt for slightly more coverage since the monthly cost difference is modest when you're younger.
